Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Caspar Weinberger was born on August 18, 1917 in San Francisco, California. He was an American politician and businessman. A Republican, he served in a variety of federal and state positions, including Chairman of the California Republican Party from 1962 to 1968. He was Secretary of Defense under President Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1987. Weinberger died on March 28, 2006. Photograph article dated September 21, 1962 partially reads "Richard Nixon not only is thoroughly acquainted with state issues, he knows more about the state administration than does Gov. Edmund G. Brown. That's the aggressive, and admittedly prejudiced, view of one of Nixon's leading California tutors, GOP State Central Committee chairman Caspar W. Weinberger." See image 00155973 for additional photo in this series.
