Description
Public proclamation no. 4 issued by Lieutenant General J. L. DeWitt, announcing that as of March 29, 1942, all people of Japanese ancestry within Military Area No. 1 are prohibited from leaving that area. Proclamation was mailed to the American Civil Liberties Union office in San Francisco. The ACLU-Northern California case file records contain legal documents and correspondence pertaining to the case argued before the Supreme Court in Korematsu v. United States (1944), challenging the constitutionality of Executive Order 9066.
