Description
Juanita Hughs was queen of the First Annual Santa Clara Valley Fiesta de las Rosas. The Fiesta took place from May 20-22, 1926 in San Jose. Hughs was crowned Queen of the Fiesta on May 20 at the Coronation Ball. Hughs is pictured in her dress, robe and crown. The dress is white, embroidered and beaded satin. The hip-level waistline and ankle length hemline are typical of 1920s evening attire. Her crown is heavily beaded and designed in the cap style of the period. A crimson velvet court train embroidered in gold thread and edged in ermine is attached at the shoulders. Six court pages dressed in white satin with gold trimmings and plumed hats would have carried the queen's train.
