This image was originally part of a California State Library photographic history project documenting the daily lives and historical, political, and cultural contributions of California's diverse communities. On June 12, 1999, Long Beach residents donated to the Long Beach Public Library 398 family and personal photographs as part of this ongoing statewide project. In this image five women wearing Cambodian Apsara dance costumes stand with Mayor Beverly O'Neill (in blue) and the donor's mother, Leng Hang, at far left. The photograph was taken during the 1998 Anaheim Street Festival. The dancers are part of a Cambodian Art Preservation group. The donor of this image is the dancer in the center, dressed in white and gold. L-R, dancers are Samoeun Kong, Cathy Anongthep, Cathleen Kim, Gloria Keo (donor), Samacit Kong, Sam Anongthep, and Cindy Anongthep. The group stands in a grassy park area. A festival booth and other costumed participants are noted in the background at left. Trees and older neighborhood residences are also visible in the background. DATE NOTES: Noted on image back.
