In 1985, Socorro and Concepcion moved into their home in Venice, which was built in 1935. "Living in Venice is a community experience," says Socorro. "Where L.A. is a zoo of cars, Venice is a community that cares enough to know your neighbors, where all are welcome." Concepcion worked for a cosmetic factory for 21 years and left because of carpal tunnel in her hands. She is now an artist who "paints for God". Socorro worked in the corporate world for 24 years before leaving to work at a retreat house for half the salary. She says she is also trying to work for God. Photograph dated August 18, 2002.
