In 1954 Ted Husing was left blind after he had an operation to treat a malignant brain tumor and he was forced to retire from sports casting. As his condition grew worse, he moved to Pasadena, California, under the care of his mother Bertha and daughter Peggemae. He died in 1962 and is interred at Mountain View Cemetery and Mausoleum in Pasadena. Photograph caption dated September 19, 1958 reads, "Ted Husing, onetime leading American sportscaster, and Alicja Bobrowska, Miss Poland in recent Miss Universe contest, discuss care of blind as Husing accepts honorary chairmanship of Lions Club White Cane Days to help blind Sept. 26 and 27. She is television announcer in Poland." Edward Britt (Ted) Husing is a retired American sportscaster and is among the first to lay the groundwork for the pace of modern sports reporting on television and radio.
