Description
Photograph shows the Volunteers of America county fair booth. The booth includes photographs of President Warren G. Harding and General John J. Pershing. One sign reads, "For God and country". Another sign reads, "This moth eaten and dilapidated flag is the first flag owned by any post of the Volunteers of America in the United States. The first charter granted to any post of the Volunteers of America in the United States was granted to San Jose Post #1 26 years ago. Therefore San Jose is the birthplace of the first post of the Volunteers of America. Since that time charters have [been] granted to posts in practically ever large [cities] of the United States."
Volunteers of America is a spiritually based nonprofit organization dedicated to helping those in need. Since 1896, they have provided support to at-risk youth, the elderly, former prisoners, the homeless, people with disabilities, and those recovering from addictions.
