Description
This is a photograph of "ropemaking in the school playground, Yeungkong [now Yangjiang], So. China. This woman is winding the different fibers of thin string, the ends of which are held by her 'slave girl' at the opposite end of the tennis court. The woman's right hand winds the large wheel, her left hand guides the separate strands to the lower arm. The circular motion revolves the nails in lower arm to these revolving nails the string is attached, string revolves as two or more strands are intertwined."
