Description
Night view of the Electric Light Tower which stood at the intersection of Market and Santa Clara Streets. Powerful electric lamps shine from the top of the tower, while hundreds of small lights outline the tower's structural supports, giving the tower the look of a Christmas Tree. Just visible in the foreground are street railway tracks. The 207 foot tower was built in 1881 with the purpose of providing electric light illumination for all of downtown San Jose. The tower collapsed during a storm in 1915 and was never rebuilt.
