Photograph of a view of Woodward's Gardens in San Francisco, ca.1870. There is a lake at center, and in the middle of its calm water is a small stone island with a gazebo. A wooden footbridge connects the island to the shore at right. There are two buildings in the background: at right is a long greenhouse with a massive façade with an arched doorway and a conical roof. At left is a large square house with two stories and three chimneys. The land around the lake is covered with short, neatly cut grass.
