Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Considered one of the world's premier water skiing facilities, Marine Stadium is located on Appian Way between Second and Colorado, in Long Beach. This was the site for the 1968 Olympic rowing trials and the 1993 Olympic Rowing competition. More recently, it was also the site for the 2004 and the 2006 X Games. Marine Stadium was recently designated as an official state historic site. Photograph caption dated July 25, 1962 reads "Chuck Garreth piloting his famous Golden Thing walked off with a clean sweep of first places in Sunday's Regatta of Champions held in Long Beach's Marine Stadium. Garreth set a new record of 153.32 MPH from a standing start. The feat was the first official recording of a 150 MPH plus performance by a hydroplane to win a lion's share of the cash prizes in the class, put up by J. C. (Aggie) Agajanian."
