Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1889-1989 The most exhilarating moment in Kings' history occurred on April 10, 1982, during their first round playoff match-up against Wayne Gretzky and his Edmonton Oilers. The best-of-five series was tied at one-game piece, when the Oilers took a seemingly insurmountable 5-0 lead into the third period. The Kings rallied with five consecutive goals, including the game-tying tally with five seconds left in the game. In overtime, Doug Smith (left) won a face-off to Daryl Evans (right), whose slap-shot beat goalie Grant Fuhr for the 6-5 win. Thus was born the "Miracle on Manchester," named for the street outside of the Forum. The Kings went onto win the series before losing in the next round of the playoffs.
