Pictured is the American Savings Bank exterior, located at the southwest corner of American Avenue and 4th Street, inside the two-story Green, Moore, and Kee building. Open awnings on the street-level windows shade the surrounding sidewalk. The exterior of the upper floor features elaborate tilework and small multi-faceted windows. The roof is covered with curved Spanish-style tiles decorated at intervals with upright decorative embellishments. Two different street lights stand at the curb, at either side of the corner in front of the building. One of the standards features five light globes mounted onto an elaborately designed pole. The other street light features two urn-shaped glass fixtures, also mounted on an elaborately designed pole. In the center of the image, one standing man leans casually against the corner of the building. At far left, a baby in a carriage sits alone on the sidewalk next to one of the bank entrance doors. Seen at far right, a young girl walks across the street. On the roof of the bank, a small vented sign states: "Electric Vault Alarm." DATE NOTES: Circa 1920. ORIG. IMAGE: 8" x 10" B&W glossy print. NEGATIVE: Yes. KEYWORDS: Tilework, tiles, embellishments, design.
