Description
The clubhouse being more or less camp headquarters, especially for social occasions, provides for the housing and boarding of the single men, as well as Department employees and transients. It consists of two floors, including a specious living room extending the full width of the front of the building, and having a large native stone fireplace at one end and a large dining room opening off the other, making an ell-shaped room, which may accommodate several diners or may be cleared for dancing. A buffet is built in an alcove at one side of the dining room, for the proper storage of dishes and linens. A pleasing stairway, bordered with a hand wrought railing, leads from the living room to the along hall on the second floor off from which are seven large bedrooms and a bathroom. A rear balcony at the end of the hall is connected to the roadway on the hillside by a bridge which acts as a fire-escape. Living quarters for housekeepers are provided in the rear of the first floor, consisting of a suite of two rooms and a bath. The kitchen and the service porch are large and roomy and the porch is enclosed by swing windows that may be removed in the warm weather. Provision has been made for, and there are installed, two electric ranges, over which is a metal duct vented to the roof and provided with an electrical exhaust fan. As in the case of the cottages, the sink, counter, drains and splash are completely tiled, and there is added an electrical dish washer. The service porch, in addition to having provisions for an electric washer and iron, has a specially built refrigerator with the unit located in the basement. The basement is quite large, and accommodates the automatic electric water heater.
