William Hammond Hall collection of photographs on irrigation and hydrology in California
Consists of photographs depicting irrigation and water projects throughout California and other western locations collected by William Hammond Hall. The photographs were probably collected while Hall acted as California's first State Engineer (1878-1888) and while he worked in the private sector as a civil engineer. The photographs span the years 1868 to 1917 and depict various water projects throughout California.

William Horsley Papers, 1903-1947
William Horsley (1870-1956) founded the Centaur Film Company (later known as Nestor Motion Picture Company) in Bayonne, New Jersey in 1907. His film company and other independents merged to create Universal Pictures Company in 1912. The digital collection contains photographs from the early 1910s related to William Horsley's career in the motion picture industry.

William Levy Alexander (1909-1997)
William Levy Alexander (birth name Alexander Levy) was born in Brooklyn in 1909, the youngest of 15 children. In 1929 he enrolled in architecture school at New York University (NYU) where the curriculum was a balance of traditional Beaux-Arts and European modernism. During one summer, Alexander spent six weeks at Taliesin West but could not afford the tuition, so he decided return to schooling at NYU. Alexander graduated from NYU with a degree in architecture in 1934. After school, he worked briefly for Raymond Hood, Ely Jacques Kahn, and for the Works Progress Administration supervising a slum clearance project in …

William M. Tipton
William M. Tipton was born in Dayton, Ohio on February 20th, 1857. William Tipton briefly taught in the Brownsville, Nebraska public schools before accepting a position in the office of the Surveyor General of the Territory of New Mexico in Santa Fe. In order to read old governmental documents from New Mexico from its time under the governance of Spain and Mexico, Tipton learned Spanish and began to develop skilled understanding of land grants and how to handle Spanish language documents specifically. Because of this self-taught expertise, he worked as a land surveyor and protected the U.S. government from fraudulent …

William Nicholas Connolly scrapbook, 1905-1969 (SPC.00133)
Scrapbook compiled by William Nicholas "Will" Connolly (1905-1987), containing photographs taken between 1905 and approximately 1955 and some newspaper clippings. The vast majority of the photos date from 1912 through 1922 and show Will Connolly, his family, and his friends. Most of the photographs were taken around his hometown of Petaluma and in other Sonoma County locations, including Rio Nido and the Russian River. The scrapbook also contains photos were taken in Marin County and feature images of Dillon Beach, Muir Woods, and Mount Tamalpais--including the Mount Tamalpais & Muir Woods Railway. The William Randolph Hearst, Jr. photograph collection consists approximately 2500 photographic prints and negatives that document the private and public life of William Randolph Hearst, Jr. and the Hearst family from the late 1800s to 1990. It includes studio portraits, commercial or press photographs, snapshots, and a few original illustrations. Subjects include family life, newspaper business, social engagements, civic and charitable events and world travels.

William Randolph Hearst Papers, 1874-1951 (bulk 1927-1947)
Consists of a portion of William Randolph Hearst's business and personal office files primarily for the years 1927-1929, 1937-1938, and 1944-1947. The papers present an overview of of Hearst's newspaper empire and his management and editorial styles; provide a glimpse into his filmmaking; and an incomplete picture of his acquisitions of antiques, art, and property. Also includes a small amount of correspondence with architect Julia Morgan and builder George Loorz about the construction of Hearst Castle. The bulk of the collection concerns the editorial management of his newspapers, magazines, and related companies.

William Rodman and Margaret Critchlow Photographs
Photographs taken by Canadian Anthropologists Margaret Critchlow and William Rodman during research trips conducted in Vanuatu from 1969-1995. Subject matter documents scenery of Vanuatu and residents in their daily activities such as copra production as well as rituals, dance, and ceremonial exchange. The locations of the images include the country's capital city Port Vila on Efate Island, the second most populous city Luganville on Espiritu Santo, and the volcanic island of Ambae.

Willsmore (Herbert) Papers
The Herbert Willsmore papers, 1968-1993, document his residency at Cowell Hospital, his involvement with the Rolling Quads, and his work with the California State Department of Rehabilitation. The materials consist of correspondence, press releases, school papers relating to his matriculation at the University of California at Berkeley, professional writing, and newspaper clippings.
