Photograph caption dated October 7, 1954 reads "Lt. Gov. Harold J. Powers was the honored guest of Valley DAV members at a Van Nuys barbecue. Here Powers, a World War I veteran (right), gets his food from Charles A. Niles, commander, Birmingham Chapter 73 of the DAV, while Lloyd C. Martin, Lee Miner, Lou Nau, chief of staff for Southern California DAV, and Carl Wiker look on. Powers also went strongly on record as supporting the $175,000,000 veteran home and farm loan bond issue which is on the November ballot." The DAV is the Disabled American Veterans.
