Orchard Supply Hardware timeline (1931-1982), used for display: - Founded as a farmers co-operative by 160 growers in 1931 - Opens first location at 230 Bassett St. - Outgrows Bassett St. location, moves to (larger quarters) 44 Vine St. - 1946 farmers members grow to over 1600. OSH builds its San Carlos St. store. Former Sodality Ball Park site. - OSH discovered by non-farmers...as Santa Clara Valley grew...OSH services increase in demand. OSH changes from farmers co-op to regular corp. with remaining 1100 farmers members becoming stockholders - 1957 10th & Santa Clara St. store opens (formerly Jack Brown's Hrdwr. - 1965 began expansion...with opening of Alum Rock Store, East S.J. - 1969 Branham Lane store opens - 1972 Sunnyvale store opens - 1973 Capitola store opens To better service our customers for repair & warranty on small engines, mowers & chainsaws, the Eager Beaver engine house was opened. Adjacent to Branham Lane store. - 1975 Gilroy store opens - 1976 Livermore store opens - 1977 OSH purchases Sunsweet Processing Plant at 7th & Alma, for increased warehouse space to serve our customers more promptly - 1979 Modesto store opens - 1979 Fremont Store opens - 1979 In Jan. OSH became a wholly-owned subsidiary of W. R. Grace Co. an international chemical co. with a growing interest in related natrual resources & selected consumer products and services - 1980 San Lorenzo & Dublin stores open - 1981 Fresno & Vallejo stores open - 1982 Stockton, Clovis and in San Jose, Silver Creek and Cottle Rd. stores open Looking forward to serving you with 17 convenient locations throughout Northern California
