Image of a memorial print for United States president George Washington; Washington ascends into heaven assisted by Father Time and an angel (or "Immortality") from a crypt; three women at left (Faith, Hope, and Charity) can be seen grieving, one holds her hand out, another with two children in her arms, and a third is slumped forward on her arms weeping; beneath Washington is a bald eagle, Union shield on which is written "E pluribus unum" and the goddess Columbia (or Liberty) bowing her head in sorrow, staff with Phrygian cap in hand; Washington's discarded armor and sword lie on the ground near a Native American Indian with his hatchet and arrows sitting with head resting on his knees; on the tomb is written the words "Sacred is the Memory of Washington OB 11 Dec. - D 1799. Et. 68." Date supplied by cataloger based on date of original and the history of the engraver; Barralet produced the image for what would have been Washington's 70th birthday in 1802, and passed away in approximately 1815. "Drawn and Engraved by J.J. Barralet."--text, bottom margin. "521"--text, bottom right margin.
