“Primary school at P.T. Mr [Bernard] Mate with further squad.” Landscape view with children doing squats on the playing field, the church visible behind. Every morning the juniors and seniors would do physical training. The teacher, Bernard Mate, had returned from a headmaster’s course at Makerere College, Uganda, in January 1946. ❧ The image is from the collection of Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) showing the period from 1928-1947 at the Chogoria mission which was established near Mt Kenya, in 1922, and run by Dr Irvine.
