Photograph caption dated December 3, 1956 reads, "Van Nuys and city officials try out machinery which will level parking lot on south side of Gilmore street between Van Nuys boulevard and Vesper avenue. Houses are being moved out and lot should be open by mid-January. From left are, clockwise, Irving Ryder, Roger E. Roy, contractor; A. D. Sobey, Robert Fuller, Van Nuys Chamber of Commerce, and Walter H. King, city department of traffic."
