Photograph of a view of Main Street looking north from Temple Street, ca.1884. The buildings on the left are all two-story, with elaborate facades that include decorative moldings on the upper floors and long covered walkways on the ground floors. The buildings on the right have similar architecture, although one of them has a cloth awning instead of the solid overhangs found on the other buildings. There are many horse-drawn vehicles parked on the side of the unpaved road. In the background near the center of the picture is a large, elaborate building with a tower or cupola on top. Legible signs include from left to right: "La Cronica", "75 S.W. Sutherland 75", "Gun Store", "Stationary", "Southern Cal News Depot 71", "M[ec]hanic's Store", "Bank", "Commercial Bank", "Agency Pacific [...]", "Pacific Coast [...]ss Co.", "Ponet O[...] Undertaker", "L.
