Photograph was edited for publication purposes Photograph caption dated August 5, 1961 reads, "He ran away because he couldn't find sandals." The article partially reads, "A three-day search for a 13-year-old Canoga Park boy ended happily Thursday afternoon when a neighbor spotted him sitting in Reseda Park...During the search, some 25 neighbors, all West Valley patrol units and a helicopter were used in an effort to find the boy who disappeared at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday after he told his mother he was riding his bicycle to the market to buy some beach sandals. Sitting in the West Valley police station Thursday, Mike said he hadn't been able to find his size sandals and 'it kept getting later...I hadn't done my homework for school either.' Mike told the Valley Times TODAY he spent Tuesday night sleeping on the ground behind an apartment house in Van Nuys, afraid to go home."
