The Bay Area Municipal Elections Committee (BAYMEC) is a non-partisan, political action committee serving the civil rights concerns of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals in the central coast counties of San Mateo, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz and Monterey since 1984. BAYMEC was founded by Wiggsy Sivertsen and Ken Yeager. Wiggsy Sivertsen co-founded GALA, the Gay and Lesbian/Bisexual Student Alliance at SJSU, and helped organize the first indoor Gay Pride Day Celebration at SJSU in 1975. Ken Yeager was elected to the San Jose City Council and to the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors. John Vasconcellos served in the California State Assembly and Senate from 1967-2004. John Laird served as a city councilperson and Mayor of Santa Cruz, California and in the California State Assembly (2002-2008). Photograph published in From closet to community, figure 77a.
