Photograph caption dated November 12, 1957 reads "Joe Finkelberg, superintendent of neon sign company, on ground, directs worker Jules Smith in securing huge sign, designed with and earth satellite motif and built in the Valley for trip to night-spot near Palm Springs. Eye-catching neon 'sputnik' is constructed of sheet metal and plastic and weighs 1600 pounds."
