Description
"Barge on Shire River, Nyasaland, pink flowers." Image of a barge on the shire river, surrounded by pink flowers in the water. There is a rope leading from the barge forward, and men with poles on either side of the barge to push it on. The Shire River, which converges with the Zambesi, was the main route up to Blantyre and onto Lake Nyasa. ❧ From a Photograph Album of the Blantyre Mission, Nyasaland [Malawi] and the Mihecani Mission, Portuguese East Africa [Mozambique].
