Photograph caption dated September 23, 1957 reads "Lined up on target, this County Fire Department helicopter cuts loose with 25-pound water drop over fingers of flames burning in Leaming Canyon near edge of San Fernando Valley. Long rubber tube, note picture, is lowered from bag before liquid flows into space in massive water ball above. Seconds later fire below disappeared in puff of smoke. More water drops are planned today."
