Description
Photograph of a set of ninety-nine steps on the side of a palisade in Santa Monica, ca.1905. The wooden steps lead from a road on the top of the cliff down to a ramshackle restaurant on the beach at right. The steps are supported by large wooden posts and make two turns on their way down. The top of the cliff is lined with a low wooden fence, behind which are several trees and shrubs. The restaurant is a small wooden building with a covered porch at left. A line of utility poles crosses the sand from left to right, and the wires stretch across the stairs.
