Description
Photograph was edited for publication purposes.
Pictured is Stewardess Betty Soumela, girlfriend of confessed bomb plotter, John Henry Grant. Mr. Grant was found guilty late yesterday on six counts of attempted murder growing out of an abortive attempt to place an incendiary bomb aboard an air liner. Afraid to face life with his wife, or Soumela, whom he had dreamed of marrying after getting out of debt and obtaining a divorce, Grant admitted to insuring his wife and two children for $25,000 before placing them aboard a plane to San Diego. Grant had added to his family's baggage a suitcase containing a bomb, which flared prematurely and betrayed the plot. Photograph dated April 19, 1950.
