Photograph article dated January 29, 1964 partially reads, "A newly developed 'compact' voting machine that can give results in a citywide election within two hours after the polls close is being studied by Los Angeles city officials. Invented by a University of California professor, the machines would cost $100 each. They passed a trial run with flying colors over the weekend by tallying votes in less than five minutes for an election held by the 16,000-member City Employes [sic] Federal Credit Union." Donna Zahner, of city Civil Service Department, uses compact voting machine.
