Caption slip reads: "Photographer: Monteverde. Date: 1953-07-23. Reporter: White. Assignment: Arroyo Seco--Harbor Freeway Link. (Negs. to Newman). 29: Looking south from Alpine Street bridge over new Arroyo Seco Parkway lanes which go on south to join Harbor Freeway under the '4-level interchange' structure. Lanes, l. to right: 1: Extreme left ramp is for north bound traffic off Ramona--Santa Ana Freeways onto Arroyo Seco Parkway. 2: Ramp splitting off of No. (1) above is northbound off Hollywood Freeway. 3: Arroyo Seco Parkway northbound lane continuing on from Harbor Freeway. 4: Southbound Arroyo Seco Parkway lane. 5: Santa Ana Freeway ramp, eastbound. 6: Hollywood Freeway ramp, westbound near bridge is on Sunset Blvd. Far, and high up, bridge is Hollywood Freeway. 22: From Harbor Freeway where it and Arroyo Seco join together under Hollywood Freeway, looking east to where Santa Ana--Ramona Freeway traffic turns under to go south on Harbor Freeway. 21: Looking north on northbound lane of Arroyo Seco Parkway, Sunset Blvd. bridge in foreground, Alpine St. bridge in background distance. 45: Looking south on northbound lane of Arroyo Seco Parkway which joins Harbor Freeway without a break under the '4-level interchange structure' where all freeways meet. 7: Looking south on northbound lane of Arroyo Seco Parkway which joins Harbor Freeway under '4-level interchange structure'. Ramps are: (left to right): 1: At far left, for traffic off Santa Ana--Ramona Freeways onto Arroyo Seco Parkway. 2: Ramp splitting off from other one is for traffic from Hollywood Freeway northbound onto Arroyo Seco Pkwy. Hollywood Freeway, at highest level, with traffic on it, is in distance. Near bridge is on Sunset Blvd. 1: Arroyo Seco Parkway passing under Hollywood Freeway where it joins under the '4-level interchange structure' the Harbor Freeway without a break. Ramp curving right takes Hollywood Freeway traffic onto Arroyo Seco Parkway, northbound. 2: Hollywood Freeway above Arroyo Seco Pkwy. northbound lane (we are looking south on Arroyo Seco Parkway, now extended and opened to continue under '4-level interchange structure' where it becomes Harbor Freeway. First ramp shown brings in Hollywood Freeway traffic to northbound Arroyo Seco lane. Second ramp, branching off, apparently from first in rear, takes traffic from Santa Ana--Ramona Freeways into Harbor Freeway southbound (traffic in these two ramps do not come together, although they seem to
one is southbound onto Arroyo Seco Parkway, other is northbound as indicated above). 80: Arroyo Seco Freeway going under Hollywood Freeway at '4-level interchange structure', where it becomes Harbor Freeway. Ramp shown is off Hollywood Freeway, northbound onto Arroyo Seco Parkway. 81: Looking north on Arroyo Seco Freeway where it passes under Hollywood Freeway. Taken from Arroyo Seco southbound lane. Arroyo Seco joins Harbor Freeway without a break under the '4-level interchange structure' where all the freeways converge. Ramp nearest is inbound from Santa Ana--Ramona Freeways to take southbound traffic onto Harbor Freeway. Other ramp takes Hollywood Freeway onto Arroyo Seco Parkway to go northbound. 8: Lanes, left to right or top to bottom, on Arroyo Seco Parkway at Sunset Blvd. bridge: 1: Converging under bridge are Hollywood Freeway and Santa Ana--Ramona Frewways northbound ramps onto Arroyo Seco Parkway. 2: Northbound lane, Arroyo Seco Parkway. 3: Southbound lane, Arroyo Seco Parkway which joins onto Harbor Freeway under the '4-level interchange structure' downtown. 4: Ramp to Santa Ana Freeway, eastbound, off Arroyo Seco Parkway."
