Description
“A small cottage inside Liaoyang city wall. This is a very typical small Chinese house, mud walls thatched roof, paper covered door & windows. Notice small panes of glass in windows, thatch held down with stones, fences made of millet stalks, diminutive lean to against wall of house either a dog kennel or henhouse, also outside window screen of millet stalks, rolled up in picture. A house like this would cost only about £6 or £7.” ❧ Liaoyang is situated on the Tai-tzu River south west of Moukden [Shenyang] and the United Presbyterian Church first established an outpost there when Old Wang, an indigenous evangelist, was sent there in 1882 by the Rev John Ross.
