Description
Originally named Boulder Dam, it was renamed Hoover Dam in 1946. The dam construction used wooden forms (shown here) in which t he blocks of concrete were set. Miles of refrigeration tubing were used to cool the concrete, otherwise the massive amount of building material used would have taken hundreds of years to cool, as well as cracking in the process. Here the picture is taken from above, looking down on the forms. Behind can be seen more construction and the river.
