Description
Photographic portrait of Miguel Krazlwski, known as "Don Palaco," [s.d.]. A man with a graying beard and large nose stares into the foreground with a haunted look on his face. He wears a hat, striped shirt, and dark vest over his pants, and sits on a chair atop a wooden floor with his crutches leaning against the wall behind it. Behind him, a large window can be seen, and a plant is visible in the foreground at left. Photoprint reads: "Pioneer Polish Jewish merchant at San Juan Capistrano. Escaped assassination by the bandelero Juan Flores in 1857 by hiding under a bread basket on the porch of his store. He lived to give a complete account of the Flores uprising to Bancroft in early 1880. Only known picture taken est. May 1907".
