Photograph caption dated February 1, 1949 reads, "This ferocious looking fellow isn't just sure yet how he likes his new quarters at the Griffith Park Zoo. The huge buffalo formerly roamed the wilds of Montana. He was presented to the zoo by John Crostti, Smoky Rogers, and Tex Williams who purchased him at auction for $646.41."
