Photograph caption dated November 15, 1963 reads, "Mrs. Donald Yates, 14460 Eldrich St., Sylmar, hold her 2-day-old Chihuahua puppy which weighs less than one ounce. Useless, the puppy's mother which weighs about three pounds, has given birth to 35 puppies at a rate of six puppies per litter. Mrs. Yates said that this is the smallest puppy that she has ever seen, noting that she feeds it with a doll's miniature nursing bottle."
