Barbara Stanwyck was born Ruby Catherine Stevens in Brooklyn, New York, on July 16, 1907. She was a popular stage, screen and television actress, her career spanning six decades. She was known as a consummate and versatile professional with a strong, realistic screen presence. By 1944 she was the highest paid woman in the United States. She was nominated for Best Actress Academy Awards for "Stella Dallas," "Ball of Fire," "Double Indemnity," and "Sorry, Wrong Number." Stanwyck never won, but was presented with an honorary Oscar in 1982. She also won three Emmys and several other awards. She died on January 20, 1990.; Eugene Warren Biscailuz was born in Boyle Heights, a neighborhood of Los Angeles, on March 12, 1883. He was Under-Sheriff of Los Angeles County from 1921-1929. In 1929, he was appointed by Governor C. C. Young as Superintendent of the California Highway Patrol (CHP), where he organized the Highway Patrol system. Biscailuz was appointed Sheriff in 1932 and was elected to serve from 1934 to 1958. He died on May 16, 1969. Photograph caption dated August 21, 1958 reads "Actress Barbara Stanwyk (sic) goes over with Sheriff Eugene Biscailuz her part in program of 14th annual Sheriff's Rodeo at Coliseum Aug. 31. Miss Stanwyk will be rodeo queen. Sheriff will lead his silver mounted posse in grand entry parade with Will Hutchins as marshal."
