Description
This 1937 photograph captures the operating office of River Lines, Incorporated at 1300 Front Street. After being established in 1932 as consolidation of several waterfront carriers, River Lines suffered a series of strikes throughout the 1930s. River Lines was the last of Sacramento River carriers to make use of the legendary Delta King and Queen sternwheelers, priced at the time for 1,000,000 dollars. Both ships were leased to the United States Navy in 1941 as troop transports.
