Description
Lady Kogo was a great beauty and the best koto player in the palace of Emperor Takakura, but when Prime Minister Taira no Kiyomori (1118-1181) became outraged by the Emperor's attraction to Kogo, she went into hiding in the hills of Saga. The Emperor asked his aide Nakakuni to find her, so he rode by moonlight to a humble cottage where he heard a koto being played softly. Nakakuni took up his flute to accompany Kogo, and a maid servant came out to the gate to see who was there. Kogo obeyed the Emperor's request to return to the palace.
