Description
Four women in fashions for October 1847. The woman in the top left wears a white, ruffled blouse with short ruffled sleeves underneath a seafoam green dress. Around her waist is a red and white striped sash tied into a bow. She wears a bracelet on each wrist, white gloves, and holds an open book in her left hand. In the top center is a white cloak or mantelet with ruffled lace around the edges. The lapels are pale green and the front is tied closed with a green ribbon bow. The woman in the top right is wearing a white lace cap trimmed with pink and yellow flowers and pink ribbon. Her short sleeved dress has a white, ruffled, off the shoulder neckline with three tiers of blue fabric with a zigzag edge. The bodice comes to point at the waist and the top portion of her skirt is visible. She wears cream colored gloves and a wide gold bracelet on each wrist, one with a large red stone. In her right hand she holds a sheaf of papers. The woman in the bottom left wears a white ruched bonnet with a white zigzag edged ribbons. She is dressed in a white blouse underneath a cobalt blue dress. The lapels and skirt of the dress are composed of several tiers of the blue fabric with scalloped edges. The dress has long sleeves with the white cuffs of the blouse showing at the wrists. She holds a closed mauve parasol in her gloved hand. The woman in the bottom right wears a pale yellow ruched bonnet with yellow ribbons. Her outfit is comprised of a purple and pink hued dress over a white blouse with a narrow ruffled high necked collar. Several narrow rows of ruffles or ruching adorn the lapels, cuffs and the edge of three tiers on her skirt. A matching shawl is wrapped around her shoulders and she wears cream colored gloves. The edges of the shawl have fancy foliated edges, similar to medieval dagged edges.
