Photograph caption dated September 24, 1962 reads, "While parents in many parts of the Valley complained about the cut in school bus transportation, parents at one mid-Valley school were glad to have sidewalks. It took a long, hard struggle to get the sidewalks around the Bassett Street School, 15756 Bassett St., West Van Nuys. Parents in the neighborhood saw a bill introduced in the City Council in 1958 to get the sidewalks. But they didn't see the sidewalks until a few weeks ago. And students for the first time, this month, were walking to school on the completed walkways." Photograph caption reads, "Bassett Street School students walk safely to school - Controversial sidewalk finally completed for opening of school."
