V1p417b In PHOTO ALBUM-VAULT: ** fc917.9461 A3, Vol. I, page 417 bottom. This photograph is contained in one of two volumes by Dobbin titled "Album of San Francisco." Text printed on photo underneath image: "Copyright 1882 by I.W. Taber. San Francisco in October, 1848. From a pencil sketch by C.A.M. Taber, made at the time. Taber photographer." Printed on image itself: "San Francisco Oct. 1848. Pencil sketch by C.A.M. Taber." This is a photo of a print of the sketch described above. It shows San Francisco when still a tiny village nestled by Yerba Buena Cove. The small lagoon seen in the center is about where the corner of Montgomery and Washington is now. Hills rise on all sides, including Twin Peaks in the distance. Two boats ride at anchor in the harbor. Two smaller boats are bringing people to shore. Seagulls are flying at the right.
