Description
Photograph of Sixth Street looking north-northwest from Broadway, Los Angeles, ca.1887-1899. Small commercial and residential buildings are present. The three-story structure in the center is the Lindley Building (built in 1887). Several pedestrians walk along the sidewalk or across the dirt street in the foreground. A horse-drawn carriage drives down the street. A series of utility poles, each with numerous crossbars, line the far sidewalk. Note the absence of the First Methodist Episcopal Church (1900-1920) at the west end of that block, at the northeast corner with Hill Street.
