Construction site for Perino's Apartments, formerly the site of Perino's Restaurant, located at 4101 Wilshire and Norton Avenue. Once completed, the 4-story, 47-unit building will include the original bar retained from the famous Perino's Restaurant, where Sinatra sometimes played the piano. It will also include the original Perino's sign that once illuminated Wilshire Boulevard during Hollywood's Golden Era. The landmark restaurant, designed by noted architect Paul R. Williams, opened in 1932 and was a favorite of many Hollywood stars. Bette Davis had a booth reserved for her, Cole Porter wrote a song on the back of a menu, and mobster "Bugsy" Siegel was a regular in the 1940s. It closed its doors in 1986. Thomas Carey construction and Killefer Flammang Architects head construction of the $20-million apartment building project. It is scheduled for completion in Early 2007. The famed Los Altos Hotel & Apartment building is seen in the background. Photo dated: November 4, 2005.
