Description
A cabinet card photograph of an express wagon on East Fourth Street, Los Angeles, California, USA, Western Foto Company, circa 1900s. The wagon, which has "EXPRESS'" on its side, has an extended platform at the back and a solid plywood board at the end of it. A driver sits at the front and holds the rein to a horse harnessed to the vehicle, which is parked in the center of Fourth Street. In the background are some residential buildings, so the location may be Boyle Heights or near the industrial area closer to downtown. On the reverse is the photographer's stamp, including the name of proprietor J. T. Pollock (formerly, with his brother, owner of Garden City Foto Company.) With some severe warping, edge rubbing and soilign, the condition is fair.
