Used in the Exhibit: Play by Play - A Century of L.A. Sports Photography, 1889-1989 At 14, wearing braces and pig-tails, "Little Mary" Decker set her first American record. At one point, she simultaneously held every U.S. record ranging from 800 to 10,000 meters. Decker's injury-prone career curtailed her Olypic aspirations; her fall during the 3,000-meter race at the 1984 L.A. Games, after she became entangled with South Africa's Zola Budd, symbolized her Olympian frustrations. Photo dated: June 23, 1984.
