The article partially reads, "Development of physical fitness in the United States is being hampered by an overemphasis on sports and entertainment spectacles in some schools, maintains the head of UCLA's Human Performance Laboratory...Last week, President John F. Kennedy expressed 'shock' over statistics which showed that one-fourth of the nation's school children can't pass a minimum physical fitness test. He urged all schools to require children to take more exercise. 'It's ironic that in a time individual performance marks--such as track and field--are being improved consistently, the general level of physical fitness of the population is falling,' Dr. Morehouse said...'It's a mistake to think that a winning athletic team or championship drill team is an indication of physical fitness or the success of a school's physical fitness program,' he indicated."; See images #00123997 through #00123998 for all photos in this series.
