Photograph was edited for publication purposes. Photograph caption dated April 19, 1961 reads "Fine music is the goal of the Valley Symphony Orchestra, shown here at a recent rehearsal in North Hollywood's Walter Reed Junior High School, and audiences at the concerts agree the orchestra is reaching that goal rapidly. Now in its 10th season, the orchestra varies from 65 to 80 members, depending on the symphonic, ballet or orchestral selections. Conductor is James A. Swift, Lockheed Aircraft employe (sic), and musicians are drawn from motion picture and television recording orchestras as well as from the Valley's schools and colleges. At right, Judith Poska (pictured), 9652 Lev Ave., Pacoima, watches a violinist through the strings of a harp and a tympanist deep in rehearsing. The next concert, to be held June 9 in a hall not yet chosen, will be the orchestra's family 'pop' concert, presenting young musicians from auditions now in progress."
