The former yard became the Los Angeles State Historic Park in 2006. Engineer H. L. Gentry receiving the strike order on May 24, 1946, from fireman James Genisio in Southern Pacific's Cornfield. SP resorted to the unusual cab-forward design due to its need for several long snowsheds on its overland route over Donner Pass. In the background is a glimpse of the unique River Station switch engine.
