Photograph caption dated March 29, 1954 reads, "Congratulations Laddie. Canine film star Laddie, named winner of the annual Patsy award for top movie performance by an animal, raises a well-manicured paw to Woody Woodpecker, whose creator, Walter Lantz, above, was given special citation for contribution to Red Cross drive. Laddie was cited at Devonshire Downs ceremony for portrayal of "Sam" in picture "Hondo." Francis, the mule, took second, and Jackie, the lion, won third place honors."
