At the International Beauty Congress at Long Beach Municipal Auditorium Valley members of the American Association for the United Nations turned out en masse to celebrate "United Nations" night. Led by Valley president, actress Marsha Hunt, the group welcomed representatives from countries throughout the world, watched as the beautiful contestants from 62 nations paraded their charms before judges and a packed audience and listened as Dr. Foster Sherwood, vice chancellor of UCLA spoke on "World Peace Through World Friendship." "Miss International Beauty" received $10,000 cash as first prize. Photograph caption dated July 29, 1961 reads, "A Bevy of International Beauties Line the Long Beach Stage.
